Bad luck for Macdonald in Tasmanian
Title
Monday March 22, 2010
After a fairly successful weekend a week ago Shane was hoping to
pick up where he left off. With a second and third placing in his
heats, Shane Macdonald qualified his VS Commodore out of position
5for the Tasmanian Title while Nathan Macdonald made up for the
disappointing finish in last weeks Australian Title to bring his VZ
Commodore home in 2nd place in the title at the Mountain Dew Ice
Speedway, Hobart, Tasmania.
After a 3rd and 2nd in his heats Shane Qualified out of position 5
while Nathan scored
two heat wins and qualified on the front row with Australian
Champion Andrew Blackwell for the 30 lap feature event. Nathan
raced to the lead into the first turn with Blackwell in hot
pursuit. Nathan lead the race for 15 laps until a slight error saw
Blackwell pounce to assume the lead. Nathan tried to make amends on
his mistake but couldn't get back past the Australian Champion.
Former National Champion Mark Carlin finished behind Nathan in 3rd,
followed by Greg Worling and Quintin Clarke. After running strongly
for most of the race in 5th place, Shane slowly drifted back through
the field after suffering a flat left rear tyre, officially
finishing in 14th place.
Shane's first heat saw a track that was already slick and dry, with
most cars suffering from a lack of traction. Shane managed to pick
off a few spots to finish 3rd in his heat. After witnessing how dry
and slick the first heat was, Nathan raced back to the pits to make
some crucial changes to his car. Nathan's first heat saw the
Queenslander start on the front row as he ran away with the heat win
ahead of Ron Watts.
Shane once again started midfield in his second heat and moved up
into 2nd place across the finish line behind eventual winner Andrew
Blackwell.
Nathan started at the rear of his final heat, and after finding a
high groove around turns three and four Macdonald showed good car
speed to take the win on the final lap.
With only a weeks break Shane and Nathan will be back at Charlton
Raceway on Easter Sunday the 4th of April, then they will focus on
contesting the QLD Title at Gympie, the Australian Open at
Maryborough and the NSW Title at Lismore.
