Carnage central two weeks before title
Sunday March 9, 2008
Saturday
Night saw the local Toowoomba boys get one last chance to test out
their cars before the Australian title in 2 weeks time.
Heat 1 Shane started
from grid 1 with Rocket Pammenter beside him, Shane got the jump but
ran wide in turn 1 allowing Rocket past, Shane struggled for the
rest of the race as the car was setup way too loose and had no side
bite, Shane ended up finishing about 6th position. After the heat,
Shane knew that he had to make some drastic changes to make the car
go forward, so after tinkering with the car it was time for heat 2.
Shane started from the
rear in heat 2, after all the changes we made, it made the car a lot
better, but not where he was hoping, Shane soldiered on and finished
about 4th. After changing the car some more for the feature, Shane
was confident the changes he had made would help the car a lot.
Shane started out of 5th for the final with Robert Trapp beside him
out of 6th, Shane Dennis in 4th, Rocket in 3rd, Dennis Bullpitt in
2nd and Colin Hockley off pole. The race got underway and
Shane had slipped into 3rd following Rocket in 2nd and Hockley in
1st, Shane hit a rut on the second lap which allowed Shane Dennis
into 3rd, Shane Mac chased Shane Dennis all the way trying to find a
way past, Dennis Bullpitt joined in on the action swapping places
with Macdonald.
On the last lap, Shane
was coming down the back straight, and ahead was a cloud of dust as
Shane
entered the turn. He could just see through the dust that
there was a car in the middle of the track, which Shane thought was
still going at race speed, but as Shane got closer this was not the
case, the car was almost at a standstill , Shane tried avoiding the
incident, but slammed into the back of the Ian Galvin Commodore,
lifting Ian's rear end of his car in the air and causing major front
end damage to the Macdonald car. To Rub more salt into the wound, it
was the last corner of the last lap, Shane falling short by about
100 Metres of the line.
Rodney Pammenter managed
to hold out Colin Hockley for the win with Shane Dennis in 3rd.
Shane now has a busy 2 weeks to get the car back together before the
Australian title. Shane would like to especially thank Rodney
Pammenter for his offer of help to rebuild the car and also to John
Jones of Rockabilly Restorations for his hand in helping us to
straighten the car on his rack tomorrow night.
