Shane
Macdonald emerged victorious at the final round of the 2007/2008 G&W
Racing Queensland Modified Production Series held at Brisbane
International Speedway on Saturday night (March 1st). Macdonald out
performed all his opponents, qualifying on the outside front pole
beside New South Wales Champion Steve Price. Macdonald steered his
Linmac Automotive sponsored VS Commodore, racing beside Price for
the first lap until Macdonald moved into the lead around the
outside.
Macdonald went on to lead all thirty laps of the feature race, who
drove faultlessly as he was put under constant pressure from Darren
White and Aidan Raymont.
The
race looked like it was going to go green to checker but Greg
Raymont come to an abrupt halt after losing a wheel, bringing on the
caution lights with nine laps to go. Macdonald continued to lead
the field away with Darren White in second, followed by Aidan
Raymont, Steve Price, Mark Ferguson and Rodney Pammenter.
Shane Macdonald surged ahead with both Darren White and Aidan
Raymont hot on his heels. Gary Maroske come to a stop in turn one,
after a broken stub axle forced him out. With six laps to go it was
going to be a sprint race to end. Aidan Raymont made the most of
the restart, moving into second and then went on to put the pressure
on Macdonald out in front. Macdonald kept his cool as he crossed
the line to take his first win in the G&W Racing Series. Aidan
Raymont crossed in second with Darren White third followed by Mark
Ferguson, Rodney Pammenter, Steven Zahl, Jason Campbell, Greg
Worling, Jeff Peacock and Peter Gray.
Shane started the night off well with a win in the first heat after
starting in position four.
The
second heat saw Shane start from pole position, lead from start to
finish and crossing the line ahead of Gary Maroske.
Heat three Macdonald started from 7th place, and moved his way
forward, trying to find a way past Greg Worling but had to settle
for 4th.
Australian Champion Todd Doyle took a nasty tumble in his final
heat, as he caught a rut in turn one and rolled the car, making it a
write-off. Doyle couldn't have any worse timing as the Australian
Title is fast approaching only three weeks away. If it was any
consolation, Todd Doyle remained victorious in winning the 2007/2008
G&W Racing Queensland Modified Production Series. Aidan Raymont
finished in second with Steve Price third, followed by Shane
Macdonald, Mark Raymont, Greg Raymont, Gary Maroske, Matt
Swarbrooke, Mark Ferguson and Steven Zahl.
Sitting in 6th place in the series before the event, the win
bolstered Macdonald to finish a credible 4th place in series.
Shane will be racing at Charlton Raceway this weekend the 8th March,
then have two weeks off in readiness for the Australian Title over
Easter being held at Maryborough Speedway.
