Disappointment for Macdonald Racing
Sunday November 25,  2007

After driving through rain for most of the trip down to Brisbane and along the coast, the skies started to clear up as we crossed the border into NSW.  Arriving at Lismore it looked like it was going to be a great night for Round three of the G&W Racing Modified Production Series.

Shane scored a pole position in his first heat, the second event for the night.  Macdonald lined up along side former National Champion Jason Jolley.  Macdonald run the perfect line into the first turn, racing Jolley into the lead.  Macdonald and Jolley set the pace, breaking away from the rest of the field, as the two cars jostled for the lead lap for lap.  Jolley found a way past Macdonald into the lead, only a few laps later Jason Jolley's car lost water and pulled to the infield, handing the lead back to Macdonald.  Shane went on to establish a good lead and greeted the chequered in first place.   Greg Worling was second and Gary Maroske third.

Heat two for Macdonald saw him start in position six beside Colin Hockley.  After several laps the yellow lights come on after a car was stranded on the track.  Macdonald had moved up to position four by this stage.  The racing continued as Macdonald chased down third place.  In what was a frightening encounter, Macdonald stormed around turn one and onto the back straight and suddenly headed straight for the wall, with the wheels pointed straight ahead.  Macdonald slammed into the pit gate wall, tearing the right hand front corner and suspension off the car.  The team later discovering the steering had "locked up".

"I just come out of turn one onto the back straight, everything felt fine, all of a sudden I had no steering, I just had to brace myself for the worst" Macdonald explained.

The impact tore the k-frame out and suspension components, but was too extensive to repair at the track, and the car was sadly loaded on the trailer.

The damage done may only see the car ready in time for Round four of the G&W Racing Series at Kingaroy Speedway on the 8th December.
