Mixed fortunes for Macdonald
Sunday
November 4, 2007
Saturday the 3rd of
November saw the running of the Brisbane 1000 at Brisbane
International Speedway. Shane got off to a good start for the night
leading his first heat from start to finish. The car was set up
almost perfectly, as Shane had made nearly half a laps lead. We made
a few small adjustments after the race for heat 2.
Shane
started from the rear in his next heat and was locked in a battle
for 3rd, 4th and 5th with fellow Toowoomba driver Robert Trapp and
Gary Maroske, Trappy ended up in 3rd with Shane in 4th and Maroske
in 5th.
Heat 3
saw Shane have another great run starting from 3rd, making his way
to the front, it wasn't all smooth sailing though as hard charger
Todd Doyle was charging through the field along with Greg Worling
challenging Macdonald for the lead, Macdonald holding everyone out
to take the win While Doyle received the black flag for an incident
with another car.
With 2
wins and a fourth, Macdonald found himself the highest point scorer
for the night. Shane was extremely happy with how the night and car
was going. The meeting was running ahead of schedule so they put on
a 6 lap dash for the top 6 point scorers, (three of the 6 were from
Toowoomba, Go Toowoomba!!) this would determine the starting
positions for the feature. Highest point scorers were 1 Shane
Macdonald, 2 Steve Price, 3 Robert Trapp, 4 Greg Worling, 5 Rodney
Pammenter, 6 Colin Hockley. The 6 lap dash turned into an 8 lap dash
as we were driving onto the track, Price got the jump on Macdonald,
Shane following closely all race waiting for a mistake from price,
Trappy lost his right front wheel halfway through the race as his
stub axle broke, bringing on the yellows for a restart. In the end
it was Price, Macdonald, Worling, Hockley and Pammenter.
In the
feature Shane got off to a good start slotting into 3rd position
until on the second lap Worling almost lost it in front of
Macdonald, Macdonald just clipping Worling spinning him around.
Macdonald got put rear of field for supposedly causing the incident,
Macdonald furious with the decision had to try and settle down and
do his best from the rear, but with 23 cars in front of him wasn't
going to be easy. Shane Managing to get past a couple of cars until
contact with another car saw Macdonald's right front strut break
ending Shane's night. Todd Doyle ended up pushing his way past to
take the win from Price, and Worling. Other local Toowoomba drivers
Trappy got a flat right front tyre after contact with Doyle, and
Pammenter pulled infield on the second lap also after suspension
damage, Dennis Bullpitt had a good night finishing 6th in the final.
Shane
Would like to say thanks to Dennis Bullpitt from Toowoomba Steering
Service for all the help he has given us and also to Rodney
Pammenter for his advice and help with the new pannard bar setup in
the car which seems to be working a treat. Shane's next race is the
10th November at Maryborough for round 2 of the G & W racing series
in which Shane sits in 5th spot.
