Shane comes home in 5th on home soil
Sunday October 7,  2007

Shane Macdonald started his season off at Charlton Raceway on Saturday night, in round 1of the G&W Racing Modified Production Series.  Countless hours were spent on the car the night before the race doing the signs and getting it ready, Shane would like to thank all the people around him who helped him get the car to the track.  As the car rolled out of the shed it looked a million dollars, with the striking new livery for 2007/2008.

Shane's first heat saw him saw him start out of position 2, beside fellow local Robert Trapp.  Trappy drove to the lead as Shane was left on the high line in the wet, dropping back to third.  Trappy then pulled out with electrical gremlins, which then saw Steve Downes come through for the lead with Macdonald in 2nd.  Shane chased home Downes and set himself up for an outside move on the final corner, but didn't quite pull it off, settling for second.

A trail of smoke come out of Shane's car all race and was fuming smoke on the final lap, worst fears were an engine oil leak but Shane struggled turning it into the pits, the crew realising a power steering problem present.  The leak was from the steering rack, a quick change saw the spare put in, but had to be removed as it was leaking extensively, worse than the previous one.  With time fast running out until the next heat, the rack was removed again and parts were swapped to make one out of the two.  The rack went in, the car went down and straight out on the track just in time.

Shane started from 5th in heat 2, Shane was running on a high from the rush of fixing the car, as he pushed the commodore to the limits, running the high side and gaining places but got caught as an altercation in front of him unfolded, seeing him drop back to 7th.  Shane then fought back and went around the outside of Dennis Bullpitt into 5th, Shane finishing behind Robert Trapp.

The final heat saw Shane start from position 6, as Shane moved into 4th place which then saw a tremendous battle between several cars, 3-wide at one stage.  Shane battled on to finish 4th with Rodney Pammenter taking the win.

The 25 lap final saw Toowoomba locals Rodney Pammenter qualify in 5th with Shane right behind him in 7th.  Macdonald moved his way into 5th place, trying to find a consistent line on the very rough track.  Shane made a mistake which dropped him back to 7th.  Shane drove a hard fought race and wound his way back up to 6th behind Matty Swarbrooke.  Macdonald was luck to finish with a fast deflating right rear tyre on the final two laps.  Greg Raymont and Swarbrooke come together on the final turn which saw Macdonald storm up the front straight and just pipped Swarbooke for 5th.

Shane's next race will be Maryborough on the 10 November for Round 2 of the G&W Racing Modified Production Series.

Stay tuned for some possible in-car video footage later on.

A full gallery will be uploaded shortly of the new car along with a brand new website.
