Macdonald
takes 2nd at Kingaroy
Monday, 7 May
2007
Kingaroy
was the venue for yet another race meeting for Shane Macdonald. 7
cars were nominated for the event but this didn't stop them from
putting on one hell of a show.
Shane
started off the front row in his first heat, with hard charger Gavin
Fletcher beside him. As the lights went green, Macdonald and
Fletcher were side by side for nearly a lap, but it was Macdonald
that managed to get ahead and into the lead. Shane had his V6
Commodore dialled in nicely and went on to win the heat with Gavin
Fletcher not far behind and Brett Barron 3rd.
Heat two
saw Shane start out of position 4. The caution lights were on as
the cars started to roll past the start finish line, and all of a
sudden the lights went green just after the start line. Most cars
got caught out, but Brett Barron advanced from the rear up to 2nd in
the first corner. Shane dropped back to 6th after the start, but
managed to gain two placings and finish 4th.
Shane
started from position 6 in the third heat, as he drove into 5th on
the first lap. Shane then made another move up the inside of a car
and slipped into 4th spot which is where he finished.
For the
feature, Macdonald qualified in 3rd place, with Gavin Fletcher on
pole and Brett Barron on the outside. Shane held his ground on the
start and comfortably slipped into 3rd place. Fletcher was out in
front with Barron in 2nd. Shane ran wide in turn 2 which saw him
get held out and dropped back to 4th. The yellows come on after an
incident involving Brett Barron and Steven Geritz, which saw Barron
go to the rear. Geritz was now 2nd and Macdonald 3rd. The race got
underway again with Fletcher leading the way. Geritz was running
2nd until he pulled infield with a problem, which left it open for
Shane to claim 2nd spot. Macdonald was slowing with a few laps to
go, as the left rear tyre was deflating after a hit in the mag wheel
in the final, which broke a piece out of the rim. Brett Barron
caught up to Macdonald but Shane managed to keep it together and
crossed the line in 2nd, with Barron 3rd. Gavin Fletcher took the
win.
Shane
will now have a short break from racing to focus on the QLD Title at
Gympie on the 10th & 11th June, followed up by the final race of the
season at Maryborough on the 16th June.
