Macdonald finishes a very strong 2nd
Monday, 12
April 2007
The last race meeting for Charlton raceway this season saw the
running of the modified production Grand Prix. After last meeting at
Charlton, Shane felt the car was lacking some power and had a few
handling issues. After rectifying these problems Shane was very
impressed with the performance of the car.
Shane done well in his
first heat starting out of position 4, Shane was able to hunt down
leader Rodney Pammenter and take the lead and win the race. The
second heat saw Shane get black flagged from a trail of smoke
following the car, later finding a loose power steering hose to be
the cause. heat 3 saw Shane start out of position 7, Macdonald
finding a way through the field to finish 2nd. after the first night
of racing, Macdonald was 5th highest point scorer, even after not
finishing the 2nd heat.
The second night saw Shane start off pole, Shane led from start to
finish opening up nearly half a lap lead from the rest of the field.
The second heat for the night, Shane started from position 3, Shane
was following Dale Grother for the entire race trying to find a way
past into the lead, Macdonald had to settle for second.
After all the points
were added up, Macdonald was to start from position 3, with Todd
Doyle off Pole, Mark Ferguson out of position 2, Jason Jolley out of
4 and Dale Grother out of 5. It was great to be able to mix it with
these guys, Macdonald knew it was going to be tough but was up to
the challenge. Shane dropped back to 5th off the start but found a
way back past Maroske who ran wide out of turn 2. Shane then set his
eyes upon the car of Jolley, eventually reeling him in and able to
make a pass up the inside out of turn 2.
Shane then was after
Ferguson, Shane darted around the outside in turn 1 and 2, only to
be held out wide up the back straight and into turn 3, Macdonald
backed out of the pass and was able to make a pass up the inside in
turn 2. This would be where Shane would finish in second, as Doyle
had a fairly handy margin over the rest of the field, Shane unable
to reel Doyle in with only a handful of laps remaining.
Shane was ecstatic
with the result and would like to thank Dad, Trappy and Dennis
Bullpitt from Toowoomba Steering Service for all their help and
advice. Shane will have a bit of a rest as he is getting Married in
2 weeks time and is hoping to be at Brisbane Speedway on the 28th
April to race there.
