Macdonald credited with 11th after steering problems

The
team ventured to a track which they had never even set their eyes
on, for Round 6 of the HDS Series. Shane finished the feature race
in 11th place after fighting with the car as it had no power
steering all race.
Shane
Macdonald started position eight in the first heat. As Macdonald
worked out the quickest way around the track, Shane managed to gain
two positions and finish 6th behind a freight train of cars.
A front
row start in heat two saw the track watered down with the water
truck before the race. Macdonald started beside Luke Hollyman on
the outside. Shane got held out wide on the greasy track and had to
slide back into 3rd place. Macdonald tried his all to get around
Brendan Bayfield but had to settle for 3rd.
Heat
three saw Shane start from position five. Once the field sorted
themselves out, Macdonald slipped into 5th place behind Steve
Downes. The track starting to go slick and was very hard to pass
on. Macdonald crossing the line in 5th.
Shane
didn't have enough points to get through to the A-main. Macdonald
had to start out of position 2 in the B-main beside fellow racer
Shane Langton. As the race got underway, Macdonald managed to get
through to the lead ahead of Langton. Macdonald ran wide in turn
four allowing Langton through. Langton went on to win as Macdonald
drifted back to 4th after the power steering pump had failed,
leaving him with no power steering and making it heavy to steer.
Greg Raymont finished in 2nd with Craig Mellor 3rd. Rodney
Pammenter just missed out on the final transfer spot in 5th.
Back in
the pits, the power steering pump could not be repaired. Shane
decided to go out and hopefully just get some finishing points. The
plan pulled off as Shane hung around the back of the field and
stayed out of trouble all race as several cars pulled out. Shane
managed to finish in 11th which was better than nothing at all.
Shane Langton finished ahead of Macdonald in 10th. Steve Price won
the A-main from Michael Hally and Gary Maroske.
Macdonald has managed to hold onto his 7th placing in the HDS
Series. Shane will be gunning for a good result at Charlton Raceway
for the final round on the 10th March, to possibly gain one or two
positions in the series.
