The
team made the trek to Lismore Speedway in NSW on Saturday night for
round 4 of the Modified Production HDS Series. For the first heat
Shane was greeted with a track that was already turning rough.
Macdonald started from position three for his first heat. The track
was showing big ruts midtrack, Macdonald fell back to 6th before
charging back with a vengeance as Macdonald ran a higher line which
seemed to work for the better. Shane made a daring move around the
outside of Michael Hally and into 3rd. Shane then brushed the wall
in turn 4, which let Hally back through. Shane finished in a
comfortable 4th placing.
The second heat saw Macdonald start out of fifth place as he battled
with Troy Ware for 4th spot. Macdonald was on the inside of Ware on
several occasions but couldn't make a pass and had to settle for
5th.
The final heat of the night saw a
five car pile up after Neil Coomber and Darryl Neisler come together
and stopped on the track, which left no room or time for anyone else
as they all tried to avoid it. Brendan Randall was the first
casualty, suffering major front end damage, Brian Learoyd also got
caught up in the action, which saw him finish in fifth but could
only turn the car left. Shane Macdonald was involved as well after
starting from 7th place, but was able to keep going with some damage
to the k-frame and suspension. Shane drove on to finish third
Temporary repairs were made after the heat as it was not fixable at
the race track. Macdonald also had a bent pannard bar which was
replaced.
As the 22-car field
lined up for the A-main, it was Jason Jolley to start from pole
position with Dale Grother out of position two. Shane Macdonald
started from 9th in the
feature race. Shane had moved into 7th place by half race distance,
when he made contact with the wall and dropped back to 9th. The car
was still ok as Shane pressed on. Unfortunately Macdonald found a
big rut coming out of turn 4 and bounced the car up the straight and
smacked the wall very hard, this time the car would not come out of
this one unscathed. The car sufferering suspension damage to the
right front wheel. Only about 2 laps were left on the clock at this
stage and at the same time coming into turn one, Mark Ferguson and
Michael Hally bumped wheels on what was a rough track which sent
Ferguson into the wall. Mark kept it going but as he took off, the
steering broke from the impact, turning his car around in front of
Gavin Fletcher. Fletcher had nowhere to go and the two collided
which sent Ferguson rolling five or six times down the back
straight. In what was a nasty incident, Ferguson was still able to
climb out of the car and ok. The race was then declared which saw
Todd Doyle take the win. In what would have been a minor
consolation, Mark Ferguson was awarded second place with Michael
Hally third, followed by Shane Langton, Dale Grother, Mark Raymont,
Aiden Raymont, Shane Macdonald and Gary Maroske.
Macdonald was credited with 8th
placing as the final placings went back two laps.
Shane will now park the car in the
shed for repairs after finding the k-frame is bent and needs
replacing, as well as the differential being bent. The car will be
checked over with a fine toothed comb in preparation for the next
hit-out at Rockhampton Speedway for Round 5 of the HDS Series.
