Nathan takes
out "City of Brisbane Title"
Posted: 09/11/03
Saturday night saw the
running of the City of Brisbane Title, which Shane won last year.
The first heat saw Nathan out of 2, right beside Dennis Bullpitt
with Shane in 3rd. A pretty even start saw Dennis and Nathan beside
each other around the first turn with Nathan eventually pulling
ahead into first. Nathan was having difficulty getting a handle on
the wet track, which saw Shane and Nathan swap positions back and
forth at one stage. Shane received a push from behind which was
enough to put him in the fence and lose a few positions. The final
positions for heat 1 were: 1st Paul Zoubakin, 2nd Nathan
Macdonald, 3rd Dennis Bullpitt.
Heat 2 was a reverse grid from the 1st heat. The start saw Shane
and Dennis get a good start, with Shane leading Dennis, (1st and
2nd), while Nathan got caught up with Tanya Blacker, dropping back
to 5th. After trying many unsuccessful attempts of passing Tanya on
the inside, Macdonald decided to go around the outside. Nathan got
up to 3rd, with a few laps to go, and could see Dennis ahead, but
couldn't catch the #10 car. Finishing positions were: 1st Shane
Macdonald, 2nd Dennis Bullpitt, 3rd Nathan Macdonald.
Nathan and Dennis drew as highest point scorers for the feature.
Nathan winning the toss of the coin and electing to start on the
outside front row with Dennis on the inside again. When the green
light flashed Nathan was able to carry enough speed around turns 1
and 2 to take the lead, while Shane ran too low into the first
corner, he pushed up into Paul Zoubakin, setting a chain reaction of
events which led to a stoppage. A complete restart with Shane from
the rear for causing the stoppage, saw Nathan once again take the
lead, opening up a handy lead from Dennis, while Shane charged
through the field to get back up to 3rd.
After about 7 laps, Shane felt some vibrations in his car, which
resulted in his tail shaft coming off the car, Shane was out of the
race for the title this year. There was another stoppage with some
debris on the track, which saw the cars bunch up again. Macdonald
got a good start, only able to keep a few car lengths on Dennis.
Nathan was able to lead the whole 15 lap final, clinching the title
from Shane, but at the same time, keeping it in the Macdonald Family
for two years in a row. Dennis Bullpitt drove well to finish a
comfortable 2nd with Paul Zoubakin 3rd.
