15th to 5th at
Gympie
Sunday
December 10, 2006
Saturday
night saw the running of Round 3 of the Modified Production HDS
Series at Mothar Mountain Speedway, Gympie. Shane Macdonald played
with the car all night in the heats but had the setup just right for
the feature, qualifying from 15th place and carved his way through
the field to finish a superb 5th. A night which was full of five's
for Macdonald after he finished 4th in the first heat, and 5th in
heats 2 & 3 and also the final.
Macdonald started in 6th place in heat 1, and moved into 4th place
early on. Shane was comfortably holding 3rd place until he ran wide
into the bottom hairpin and bogged the car down and actually stalled
the car, with the momentum of the car he got it going again and only
lost one position. Shane finished in 4th.
Heat 2
saw Macdonald start from position 3, but after a first lap incident
the yellows come on and the restart saw Shane start from pole beside
Wayne Miles. As they come into the first corner, Macdonald's car
pushed wide which allowed several cars through as Shane drifted back
to 4th. The next corner saw Todd Doyle push Macdonald out of the
way in the hairpin, sending Macdonald back to 6th. Todd Doyle was
black flagged due to his bonnet obstructing his view which saw
Macdonald finish in 5th place.
The
third and final Macdonald started in 5th. With not even one lap
being completed a few cars come together which saw a complete
restart and Macdonald to start from position 3. As the green flag
waved Macdonald put the foot down, as they come into turn 2 Dale
Grother threw his car into the turn when Macdonald made contact and
Grother spun, an unfortunate incident which the officials deemed
Macdonald's fault and put him to the rear. Macdonald was able to
re-gather a few positions to finish in 5th place.
Macdonald qualified 15th position in the 35 lap A main. Local flyer
Greg Raymont was on pole with Glen Pagel on the outside. The
feature was marred with incidents of cars coming together and
spinning out, Macdonald showed patience, as well as skill to avoid
everything and charge through the field. Shane moved his Commodore
into 5th place with about 12 laps to go. Greg Raymont was leading
followed by Aiden Raymont, Glen Pagel and Michael Hally. As the
laps wound down there was a stoppage after a car had spun with one
lap to go. At this stage Greg Raymont's exhaust was falling off the
car and hanging out the side, but was pulled off on the infield and
he was allowed to continue. With one lap to got everyone was
scrambling to make an advance in track position but all stayed as
they were with Raymont taking the win from Aiden, Glen Pagel,
Miachael Hally and Shane Macdonald.
Shane
will have the car ready for the next weekends race meeting at
Charlton Raceway and will be chasing another podium finish at his
home track.
