Solid finish for Macdonald at Kingaroy
Sunday November 26, 2006
Shane Macdonald brought his Linmac Automotive Commodore home in 9th place on the tight track Kingaroy Speedway for round 3 of the Modified Production HDS Series.

Macdonald started from 7th place in the first heat, as Matt Swarbrooke got held out wide on the start off the front row and drifted back to 6th place, which then saw Shane dive down on the inside and clinch 6th place from Swarbrooke.  But at the same time Greg Worling went underneath Macdonald.  Steve Thomsen was running second until he had a flat tyre, which allowed Shane to capitalize on the last corner of the last lap and take 6th place.

Heat number two saw Macdonald start out of 5th, as the race got underway Luke Hollyman spun in front of the field which caused a concertina effect, as Macdonald spun to avoid the carnage, he ended up hitting Matt Swarbrooke then one of the Raymont cars had nowhere to go and ran up the back of Macdoanld. Shane was able to keep going with a slightly bent rear bumber.  There were only three left in the race after the incident, which left Macdonald off of pole.  Steve Price got the jump on the outside and raced into the lead as Macdonald thought it was a single row restart. Shane ran wide a couple of laps later and let one of the Raymonts through.  Shane finished in 3rd.

The final heat of the night saw Shane off of pole position, as he jumped straight to the lead.  But the yellows were brought on as some one had spun, which then brought on a restart.  Macdonald once again went straight to the lead and lead the race from start to finish, pulling a 1/4 lap lead over the field.

Even though Macdonald had some good finishes in the heats, he qualified the car in 11th place.  Macdonald was pleased with the result as there were over 35 cars at the event.  Local Toowoomba racer Robert Trapp qualified out of 3rd place in his VX Commodore.  The track had been watered for the feature which made it real greasy for the first 10 laps.  On the start Macdonald got a good run on the inside and moved into 8th.  The race went for 20laps without a stoppage.  The racing was close with Trappy holding 3rd place and Todd Doyle in the lead with Gary Maroske hot on his heels.  The yellow lights come on with about 10 laps to go after Darren Baldwin ended up in the fence.  After recieving several consistent bumps from Greg Raymont, Macdonald drifted wide as Raymont moved into 8th.

By this stage the right front tyre was going off from the abrasive track which was making it understeer a lot.  Michael Hally got past Trappy into 3rd with a few laps to go.  With 4 laps to go there was another stoppage as Brett Barron  radiator hose got cut and lost water everywhere.  The positons stayed as they were for the remainder of the race.  Todd Doyle took the feature win, with Gary Maroske 2nd, Michael Hally 3rd, Robert Trapp 4th, Steve Price 5th, Aiden Raymont 6th, Greg Worling 7th, Greg Raymont 8th and Macdonald finishing in 9th.

The car needs a bit of cosmetic work but will be all firing for a return to the mountain, Mothar Mountain Speedway at Gympie in two weeks time for round 3 of the HDS Series.
