Shane
Macdonald proved he was a man on a mission at Charlton Raceway on
Saturday night, coming from 7th on the grid in the 25 lap final to
finish a solid 3rd. The racing was close and the competition was
fierce as Shane stepped up to the challenge.
For heat
1 Macdonald started from position 7. Macdonald moved up to 5th
place as he began to find a line, trying to make a move on Wayne
Miles, Shane was then being chased by Rodney Pammenter. Pammenter
and Macdonald raced side by side for a few laps with Macdonald on
the outside. Shane ran a bit too high in turn 1 which let another
car through as Shane ran out of tear-offs. Shane ended up in 6th
place, with Robert Trapp taking the heat win
Shane
started out of 2nd place in heat 2 beside Dale Grother. Macdonald
slipped into 2nd around turn 1, as Shane pushed his lightning quick
car to the limit, right on the tail of Grother. Macdonald looked
for a way past, getting up the inside on a few occasions, then
switching to the outside. Shane tried to make his move on the final
lap, working the high line as he moved alongside Grother with the
race being a photo finish. Macdonald clipped the wall on the way
through, but Grother won the heat by a milli-second, with Macdonald
in 2nd.
Heat 3
saw shane start from position 6 as Macdonald moved forward into 4th
place, and fighting the rough track. On a few occasions the car was
on two wheels as Macdonald pushed it to the limits.
Macdonald qualified out of position 7 for the 25 lap main event,
with a 20-car field all up. Todd Doyle won all his heats to start
on pole with Robert Trapp on the outside front row. After suffering
a sore shoulder from the demanding Charlton surface in heat 3,
Macdonald wasn't sure if he would last the distance, but Shane took
the challenge and drove his Linmac Automotive VS commodore through
the field, picking off the cars one by one. Robert Trapp was
unlucky to have an ignition relay jump off after recieving a tap
from another car which shut his engine down in the first lap.
Shane
Macdonald found himself into 4th place as he reeled in Aiden Raymont
who was suffering from a broken Shockie. As they come around turn 4
Raymont spun, with Macdonald narrowly missing him. Shane moved into
3rd place which is where he finished. Todd Doyle won from Mark
Ferguson and Macdonald.
Macdonald was exhausted but overwhelmed with how good the car is
going after only a few races under his belt.
The next
race for Shane will be the 18th November at Brisbane Speedway for
round 1 of the Hydraulic Drilling Services.
