6th placing at Brisbane for Macdonald
Posted: 01/05/06
Shane Macdonald made the trip to Brisbane International Speedway on Friday night, 28th April.  Production were the main support class for the Australian Sprintcar Open.  Shane started on the outside front row for the first heat.  As he drag raced Shaun Ressuggan into the first corner, Macdonald ran wide coming out of turn 2 and had to slide back into 4th place.  Shane managed to get back up to 2nd spot, when Steve Downes found a way past up the inside after Shane ran wide.  Robert Trapp drove away with the heat win from Downes & Macdonald.

Macdonald started from 5th in heat 2.  The race seemed to go pretty smoothly until a car spun in front of Macdonald, Shane had to take avasive action but just hit the car with the left front, luckily only superficial damage was done to our car.  The race was restarted and Keith Hussey took the win from Robert Trapp, Gary Maroske and Shane Macdonald.

Shane qualified from 8th place for the feature, with in-form driver Robert Trapp qualifying his Commodore on pole position for the second meeting in a row.  The feature was run without incident as Macdonald held his position, but made a late move to get his VS Commodore up to 6th.  Trapp was leading the race until a few laps to go Gary Maroske made a move into the lead up the inside of Trapp in his Rotary Mazda.  Maroske won the final from Robert Trapp and Steve Downes.

Shane's next race is at Mothar Mountain, Gympie, next weekend.  It will be a learning curve for Macdonald as he has never raced there, and the track has a unique ''kidney shaped'' track and is also on the side of a hill!
