Shane cruises to second placing in 2nd ever production race

Posted: 17/04/06
The final race meeting for Charlton Raceway was on Sunday the 16th April.  This was also shane's first race at his home track in Modified Production.

Shane's first heat saw him start from 3rd place.  With the purchase of some new tyres thanks to Toowoomba Steering Service and Robert Trapp, the car was set to really pick up the pace from our last meeting.  The track had been watered down before the race to stop the dust from picking up, as the track was starting to go slick down low.  Shane jumped straight to the lead into the first corner, only to drop back to 2nd as Gary Maroske come through into the lead in his Rotary Mazda.  It didn't take long for Robert Trapp in his VT Commodore to come through into 3rd place from the back of the pack, which then saw a great race between Macdonald and Trapp, as Trappy hugged the pole line with Shane on the outside for several laps.  Trapp eventually moved into 2nd with Shane finishing in 3rd.

Shane Macdonald started from 8th position in heat 2.  Macdonald started to work the high line as they had wet the track before the race. Macdonald come through to 5th place, when the yellow lights come as Robert Trapp was sent to rear of field for illegibly causing an incident beetween himself and Gary Maroske.  The race got underway again, as Macdonald held his position, Trappy come through back into 4th place, when Gary Maroske nearly spun which left Shane Langton and Robert Trapp nowhere to go, all slamming into each other.  The race was declared which was fortunate as Shaun Ressuggan was the heat winner, with Shane Langton finishing 2nd, Trapp 3rd and Shane Macdonald 4th.  Maroske was put back to last position.  Trapp also bent a rack end which would have put him out.

For heat 3, the track was once again watered, as Shane started at the rear of field.  The track conditions were slippery at times, that which didn't seem to phase heat winner Robert Trapp, winning the 3rd heat convincingly.  Macdonald come through to finish 7th.

The fourth and final heat found Macdonald off the front row on the outside of Shane Langton in his ford falcon.  Macdonald got a good start and powered on in his V6 commodore to hold a few car lengths lead over Shane Langton all race.  Shane winning his first ever race in Production, the car was sounding and looking superb.  Robert Trapp again had a dream run coming into 3rd place after starting rear.

The highest point scorer was Robert Trapp, with Shane Macdonald being second highest.  A front row start for Macdonald was just what the doctor ordered.  As the green light come on, Macdonald tried to stick with Trapp around the first corner, but had to slide into 2nd place.  The feature was run without any stoppages, as the man to beat for the night, Robert Trapp cruised to a win in the feature race.  Shane Macdonald wasn't too far off in 2nd place, keeping a few car lengths between himself and Trapp all race.  Gary Maroske come through for 3rd place.

The cars progress seems to be going forward the more laps we do.  Thanks goes to trappy for helping set the car up and get the car around the track.  We wouldn't be where we are now without his generosity.
