luck has come to an end
Posted: 23/05/04
The
last round of the tri-series was held at Yandina Speedway on
Saturday night. For the first heat Nathan started from position 2
beside Steve Conway. Conway got away to a better start and beat
Macdonald into the corner. Macdonald tried to catch Conway but it
wasn't until about the sixth lap that Macdonald found a way past.
Macdonald opened up a good lead and took the first heat win, with
Steve Conway 2nd and Paul Zoubakin 3rd. 1st Nathan Macdonald
2nd Steve Conway 3rd Paul Zoubakin.
In
heat 2 Macdonald started from position 6. After the green flag
dropped, Macdonald found a way around the outside of Terry Medcalf
and Shane Hollyman to find himself up into 3rd spot. Shane Hollyman
was then challenging Macdonald, by getting up the inside on numerous
occasions. But Macdonald pushed on and then passed Paul Zoubakin up
into 2nd. Steve Conway was having another good run, leading the
race. Macdonald managed to reel Conway in, and take 1st spot on the
last lap. 1st Nathan Macdonald 2nd Steve Conway 3rd Paul
Zoubakin.
In
the 3rd and final race, Nathan found himself on the front row beside
fellow Toowoomba racer Peter Rodgers. Nathan stole the lead into
the first corner, while Rodgers slotted back into 2nd. Macdonald
opened up a half lap lead over Rodgers until about 6 laps into the
race, Macdonald's engine gave way, forcing the car on the infield
with a blown motor. Peter Rodgers kept up the pace, to fight off
Steve Conway who was challenging for 1st. Rodgers taking out the
final heat with Steve Conway 2nd and Chris Duffel 3rd. 1st Peter
Rodgers 2nd Steve Conway 3rd Chris Duffel. After the night's
racing, this left the tri-series point score with - 1st Nathan
Macdonald, 2nd Paul Zoubakin, and 3rd Terry Medcalf.
Macdonald copping the sweet win of the tri-series at a cost, a blown
engine. Nathan and his pit crew will be prepared for a busy week to
try and piece back together the engine for the Australian Title next
weekend.
